Little girls start thinking about weddings and marriage long before boys even begin to think about girls. When Misty and her cousin Erin would get together, even at this young age, they would rehearse their weddings and dress-up like brides. I thought it was cute until I discovered they were preparing for life while the boys were still learning to belch and fart. Poor helpless boys.! Wait a minute, I was one of those clueless creatures.
This picture was taken while she was in elementary school at St. Marks Lutheran School. Our first two kids were somewhat betrayed by the public school system so we chose to put her in a private school. But and this is a big but. The school only went to eight grade so and the Lutheran high school was very expensive. So we enrolled Misty is Central Christian High School. There her life and eyes became focused on “that boy“.
This picture was made shortly after entering Central Christian. She had not yet really become aware of the power girls have over boys. So her grades were almost effortlessly good. But that boy lurks!

This is about my first remembered image of Shaun. He seemed to be shy but very polite. At first he and Misty just “went together”. Didn’t go anywhere because they were both still too young, at least in the parent’s opinion, to date.
Soon Shaun became a regular feature and I knew things had become serious. He and Misty were both highly involved in athletics in school. He played basketball and baseball while she played softball and basketball.
Shaun asked me for permission to marry Misty while they were seniors. He said they were going to wait until college to get married but wanted permission to start planning. That boy had successfully taken my baby from me. But he seemed like a great kid and I knew Misty would be cherished. Then they planned on getting married right after school. They picked a date but her cousin Erin had picked the same day so Shaun and Misty delayed for a year. Told you they were great kids.
