The Reunion will be the Weekend After Easter April 17 & 18, 2004
Victoria at the Quality Inn |
Hey Wayne I have secured rate/rooms at the Quality Inn in Victoria (it used to be a Hampton Inn) with a very nice lady, Peggy Yelton. She's set up a group block of 5 rooms on Friday, April 16 and 10 rooms on Saturday, April 17 at a reduced rate of $58.46 plus 13% tax (she's holding a mix of kings and dbl/dbls). Family members can call 361-578-2030 and request a reservation from the "Stover Reunion" block. All major credit cards are accepted. The room rate also includes a hot breakfast from 7am-10am on Saturdays and Sundays. She's also holding their hospitality suite for your use on Saturday and Sunday. The room has a sink, refrig, and bathroom and a permanent conference table that I think will work will for food setup (she says the room can hold approx 25 persons in a mix and mingle situation and that they use it for their Christmas party). It's located on the 2nd floor and opens onto a smaller lobby area, which sounds a lot like last years setup. So long as we hit the above noted room block there will be no charge, otherwise it's $52 plus tax, per day. I have given her your name and cell number as a contact person and also my information as backup, should you be unreachable.

Hello Wayne and Carolyn, It was great to hear from you today. Dennis and I had such a great time at last year's reunion, we still talk about it. I don't know how we could improve on last year's but just perhaps we can help. Dennis and I would like to provide one meal for the whole family. Dinner Friday night, lunch Saturday or dinner Saturday. I'm not sure how many will be in town on Friday night, so maybe a Saturday meal would be better. Do you know if we are allowed to cater in something to the reception area? We don't have a preference which weekend in April, both are clear on our calendar as of today! As for activities, I'm sort of out of the loop for San Antonio ideas. Perhaps Marcy can help out with that. I really like Leon Springs and wouldn't mind going there again. I only hope that more of the family will stay and dance....seems like most left and headed back to the hotel. Please let me know what other responses you get and also if you have any ideas about the meal offer. Dennis and Phyllis Boedeker |
I would like the week after Easter. Saturday evening/afternoon how about us just walking the River eating/drinking as we see fit and in the group you happen to be with? Or a group visit to Fiesta San Antonio which is an amusement park. RR |
Thank you for the letter, I am pleased another reunion is planned, we enjoyed the last one very much. My suggestion would be to find a hotel with an indoor pool so the children can swim. But if not, that is OK, we will be there anyway. Sherri |
I got your letter about the reunion. I'm so glad that you are working on this, its so fun to get together with everyone and visit! I think it would be great to have the reunion at the Hampton Inn again. Since we're talking about getting together in the spring, and it shouldn't be too hot, I was thinking it might be fun to have a family picnic at a park with some fun games and such. That's the only idea I had for a family activity. Sorry I'm not much help! I'll give it some more thought though and let you know if I have any other ideas. Hope all is well with you guys! Thanks again for spearheading this!! Erin |
It was so good to hear from you and that we are planning a reunion in 2004. I am ready for it.
The Hampton Inn sounds good to me. My vote would be for the weekend after Easter; however, there are families with school kids so perhaps we should consider a summer reunion. Do you agree? The dance hall--too few danced and it was too loud to visit. I did enjoy the band but I really didn't go to SA for that purpose. Remember all the hours our dads sat and played Penuche? I don't know the first thing about it, but it made oodles of memories for them. Perhaps Scrabble, Scattagories, 42 or 84, etc., would provide us with similar memories. We could be timed and change players. Domino winners could change tables and work up to the head table, etc. What about us bringing "white elephants" to use as prizes? I seem to have my fair share of them! We could even have a Chinese Fire Drill (or whatever it is called) where a person picks a prize. Again it could be a white elephant. A gift can be taken by 2 different people and then it is in the hands of the last owner to keep. I would have to find out more about this but it is fun. Maybe some would like to share funny, etc. events that would be interesting for others in a group setting. What about a recipe swap? Each cook could make copies of a favorite recipe and booklets could be assembled at the reunion. Mother had a recipe book here from the Denton State School and it had recipes in it from Grandmother's sister, Irene. Provided I find it in time, I could copy some of her recipes. I also have some written in Grandmother's handwriting. I think these would be a plus for a recipe book. I didn't realize there would be food there so next year I plan to bring something--would like a meat tray but that would be hard to fit into an ice chest. I've about stretched my brain as much as possible for one night so will close. If I can help, let me know. Cousin, Omelia |
Sounds like you are getting a lot of responses. That's great! I'll check out the site. Preston's doing great! Don't know if you heard but we are expecting another one in May! So, I guess my date preference would be the weekend before Easter so that I can still come and don't get too close to my due date. Erin |
I am very flexible on when we hold the reunion. I think the folks that have to work should decide when will be the best time..... I will say this..... Please No Smoking..... I can't handle it. After smoking for nearly 30 years, it makes me sick to go where there is smoke. I guess that is my only restriction...... I would still like to hold it in Galveston one day and we could go to Moody Gardens, ride the ferry, etc. I always think of Galveston when I think of Grandmother. She loved it so much. Love, Your cuz, Kathy |
Don't forget to put a deadline on when they will be due to me. I will need a few days to organize and maybe retype some of them. What would you think of me running them off on the copier at church? That is a freebie. Would that be as good as Kinko can do? Then I could mail them to you. I don't know how the weight would be to mail, but seems cheaper than Kinko.
Or do you have a good bud at Kinko? I was thinking just now about a cover--what would you think if each family sent a picture or pictures of their family-- I Cut out the heads and maybe shoulders and glue these on the cover sheet and run it off. Some might have to be printed on the back cover. I would like to print the name on each picture so that would have to be provided with each picture. I think the cover sheet needs to be a heavier grade paper than the recipes. Do you think the first of March would be a good date and what do you think about what I have asked in this paragraph. Hello Bro, How are you doing? Just wanted to let you know Fiesta San Antonio was going on April 16-25th so I doubt we could get rooms at the Hampton Inn unless they are booked quickly for that weekend. This may be a suggestion I don't know if we would want to pursue. How about the Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels. I wonder if we could get some good rates at the hotel during the spring season. The water park would be closed but there is probably other thing we could do such as a picnic in the park, golf, etc. This is where we used to stay for our family thing and might be more economical for those with larger families. Just a thought I wouldn't even know how to go about finding out. Speaking of the reunion, I have some great pictures from last year I found on a roll of film I had forgotten about. |
Good to hear from you! We just got back from Colorado and found your letter. Joel & I plan on attending next years reunion. The last one was great and I should Thank You for your effort! We don't have any suggestions for the Sat evening event; and will be pleased with whatever you coordinate. We would like to see it stay in San Antonio since we have relatives there (Joel's family). I know last years reunion was a difficult time for Omelia (Aunty), Kathy (Mother) and Uncle Lodey, I expect this year will be much easier for them!
We look forward to visiting with you and the entire family in April. |
Hey, now, kinfolks, are you aware that we are trying to have a souvenir recipe book for the 2004 reunion. I know there are good cooks in this family because I remember all the good food served on weekend get-togethers when I was a pup. Surely, some of that good cooking rubbed off on some of us. Dig into some of your recipes that your mothers cooked and you loved and remembered as a kid and send them along with the memories of it; pull out that favorite recipe you have used; or that recipe you have come up with on your own. (Anyone want my tuna casserole? I made up the recipe and had it ready one night when the preacher and David came in from fishing. Having already had enough fish odor----and smelling my awful looking casserole, David couldn't eat it and asked that I never try that again!! I must confess I couldn't eat it other.) I promise not to submit my tuna casserole. Wayne will be telling you more about the recipes in his newsletter, but please be thinking about your recipes.
Looking forward to seeing everyone whichever weekend it will be. I had so much fun at the last one, David says he will attend the next one. |
Hello everyone, Sorry I didn't get to make it last year. It sounded like a lot of fun. Mom, Renda, Vicki and Jo Lynn all typed in something several weeks ago at Mom's house, but it didn't come up so don't know what happened to it. Guess it got lost in cyberspace!! I couldn't type on the site so I am e-mailing you. Mom and the others suggested we have it in Port Lavaca or Victoria this year. There are places like the community center in Port Lavaca to meet and nice motels. After all, that is where Grandmother is buried. In Port Lavaca there is a man-made beach with a picnic area and pavilion. We just thought we would suggest this but it is just a suggestion and doesn't really matter where we meet. Just wanted to throw the idea out there. Looking forward to getting to make it this year. Another suggestion was made if we do go to San Antonio again, which is fine, then how about looking to stay elsewhere, possibly on the riverwalk if affordable. New Braunsfel is also a good idea. As you can see, we are easy to please but just wanted to suggest the Port Lavaca and Victoria site too. Jo Beth |
Even though the total milage for Victoria is smaller, the catered meal offered by Phyllis and Dennis overides the 500 mile difference. I will check with Phyllis about catering the meal in Victoria. |
We can cater a meal anywhere...Victoria or Pt. Lavaca would be great! Let me know which ever you decide. I would tend towards Calhoun County area since it appears to be a tad closer for the majority of people and I'm sure Mom and Dad would be thrilled! Phyllis |
The Fairfield Inn and LaQuinta are located just minutes away from Jackie and Dale's house. I'll check out the local dance scene and see if there's any Saturday night entertainment around? Phyllis Click here: Bauer Community Center suggested gathering place. Hey Wayne, Sorry I was out of town, (of all places, San Antonio) visiting my oldest daughter, Jessica. She lives there now too. Mom said my email address was full. Sorry I had some junk someone sent me that filled it up after not checking it for a couple of days. So it is in Victoria now? Mom said you called Renda last night. That sounds great Mom was excited about it being close. Let me know if I can help with anything because I know Victoria pretty well and can check on anything you want me to. Oh, I don't ever check this email so don't reply to it. I have an alternate address at (xxxxxx@xxx.xxx) that is never full if you need to email me anything else or the (xxxx@xxx.xxx) is now working. Jo Beth |
Bev told me the reunion had been switched to Victoria instead of San Antonio. I think that was a great idea. There is a Fairmont Inn that has an indoor pool. I know Uncle Dale's kids stay there when they go to visit them. I did a check of the 2 dates and they show rooms available. The regular room rates showing were around $60-$65 and as I remember that is approximately what we spent at Hampton Inn. The rates shown include a complimentary breakfast. Terry |
Since you are adding comments, I suggest adding this which was used by Martha. When she sent her recipes, she put her full name, including maiden name, the wife of (using his full name) ,
the son of (using your mom's full name). I think this would help all of get the families separated and know who our kinfolks are in each family. By the way, I emailed Martha to tell her I liked that idea but the email was returned. ttul. Omelia |
I called Aunty and asked when the reunion is scheduled for this year and she said she wasn't sure. I am so looking forward to this reunion (since I wasn't able to attend last year's) and the spring break for my kid's schooling is April 3-12, which we will be out of town. So.... I was hoping that you would consider scheduling the family reunion for the weekend of April 17-18, if it's not too late for this special request. April |
Hi Wayne, We were wondering when the reunion will be for sure and if we were having it in SanAntonio or Victoria? Mom was wondering if it would be easier on everyone if we had it closer to Bev and Terry. She told me she didn't care where we had it this year to make it easy on everyone, Mom always wants to be easy to get along with just like me. Do you need any help withh anything if so let me know what I can do. Vicki |
I am planning on the reunion being in Victoria the weekend after Easter. Erin, Bev's daughter is due with her second, a girl this time, May 19th so I worry about her making it. Ont the other hand April, Kathleen's daughter and family can not make it the week before Easter. Bev and Terry seem to be doing well. A hell of a lot better than I would be. Victoria is only about an hour or so from them so the drive should not bother either one. The one way you can help is by making me get off my lazy b..t and writing a letter to the family telling them that Omelia needs family recipes in order to put together a cookbook we'll be giving to everyone. I hope I get the letter written and mailed this weekend.
Renee is working on securing accomadations and Phyllis is going to cater a meal. I am sure there will be enough work for all us cousins when we get a little closer to the date.

I too think I will be fine. The oncologist called this morning and is going to schedule the treatments out for 4 courses so I will know for sure how my bad days will fall. Don't change anything because of me. If it is going to be on a bad week I can rest in the hotel as well as at home. I think I would still like to have it in Victoria and had though about talking to JoBeth about perhaps doing a fishing thing for the guys on Friday or Saturday. Of course as the organizer you can't fish with them but are welcome any other time we go to the coast. With them scheduling the treatments ahead of time I will also know better when we can and can't be at the coast for the weekends. Terry |
A couple of questions from Phyllis and Dennis: Just as soon as a firm date and hotel location are secured, we will work on the Saturday lunch or dinner? While making hotel arrangements can we check and see if the hotel will allow us to bring in a catered meal for either lunch or dinner? If there are evening plans, we could have the dinner meal catered at that location possibly? Phyllis |
It is getting more important by the day that a firm date be set for our Reunion. I'm working on catering and need to be able to schedule this event. Can we set a deadline for deciding when the Reunion is? Thanks, Phyllis |
The reunion will be the weekend after Easter. More than likely Terry will not be able to make that due to CHEMO tretments. Those dates are April 17 and 18, 2004. wayne |
