Parade 8

One of my favorite universities had a float that was completely student designed and constructed. University of California Polytechnic sounds like a total party school. A very significant percentage of the scientist and engineers in America come from Polytechnic. The University of Nebraska band was there. It seemed like there were a thousand people in the band. I think the entire state followed them to California. The grandkids got real excited when the buffalo soldiers came by. One of the had just read a school story about them.

The fisherman float were not physically connected. Supposedly the drivers were connected by walkie talkies. The fish weaved across the street like a real hooked fish. This was one of my favorite because it had so many purple iris. I could not see any males in the Frank Scott Bunnell band. Was that ironic or just a fluke?

I didn‘t know in Optimist International had a women‘s auxiliary. That seems kind of archaic. They had a great float and the old woman setting beside me told me that there were no plans to combine the male and female groups. And as is now traditional I have included a picture of a really pretty young lady. Unfortunately I captioned it with the punch line from an ancient dirty joke. Still she is very pretty and gives hope for the future.

The pink Cadillac is just slightly larger than life size. One of Carolyn‘s friend mother had a Cadillac. The thing had a trunk you could store a Hummer in. The Taiwan China Airline float made we once again wonder when our politicians were going to betray that island as we have so many of our smaller allies.

The picture above is of, IMHO, the busiest float in the whole parade. It was playing loud synth music and everything was moving as if jitterbugging. |
