Our new Picture Studies Book is just off the press. It is the most com-
plete and finest book of its kind published for the study of the world’s best
paintings. Former President Eliot of Harvard, in a report to the General
Education Board a few years ago, stated that the next great step for American
Education is to incorporate the fine arts in the school system adequately. Professor Grummann says: “One of the most important means toward the
realization of Dr. Eliot’s ideals is to interest our children in pictures.” That
is just the purpose of this book. It makes this possible by bringing to the
attention of the children of our schools everywhere some of the world’s
masterpieces in art. Through a careful selection of paintings it presents
pictures that have a natural appeal to children with a view to developing their
interest and appreciation toward the finer subjects.
There are 104 pictures shown in the Complete Book. All the pictures
are shown in color mountings, many of them are rich duotone reproductions.
The pictures are arranged by grades and following each picture is a complete
story of the picture, questions on the picture and a section containing brief
biographies of the painters. For the greater convenience of school the Complete Book is also divided into two separate volumes---Book I for grades 1, 2,3 and 4, and Book II for grades 5, 6, 7 and 8. These books make it possible for teachers in all grades to follow the state courses of study in their picture
study work. A very complete index section makes the books quickly and
