Toffee Crunch bars


1/4lb of saltine crackers (about 35)
2 sticks (1/2 lb) butter or margarine
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
12 ounces chocolate chips
chopped nuts (optional)
Line a 10 X15 inch jellyroll pan with foil. Butter the foil. This is very important. Line the foil with the saltines. Heat the butter and sugar. Boil for 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Pour hot mixture over crackers & bake at 400° for 5 to 7 minutes. (I did 7min) Remove from oven (very hot! be careful) & while piping hot, cover with the chocolate chips & spread as quickly as the chocolate melts. You may add nuts on top of the chocolate if desired. Cool slightly & finish cooling in the fridge. Break into pieces & store in the fridge or freezer.

For a real toffee flavor use real butter & add the nuts. Use almonds & it tastes just like a Heath Candy Bar.
